Yet here we are right after Labor Day, contemplating another rash of tragedies in high school football. With those tragedies come another set of well-meaning people and communities wondering what, if anything, they could have done to prevent it.
The Bulldogs opened up the season with an impressive win and performance from Thornton. The signal caller finished completing 8-of-9 passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns.
The community gathered at the high school after Gainer's death "just to be together," Norton said, adding that it was "an indescribably heartwarming experience to watch the community pour their hearts of love on the family and Chance's teammates and coaches."
